Water activities

This 9.8 acre body of water is available for state-stocked fishing, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, boating, and relaxing. For equipment rental, visit Pathfinders Outdoor Adventures in downtown Norton.

High Knob Recreation Area

Camping

High Knob Recreation Area is the highest campground in the Clinch Ranger District of the Jefferson National Forest. Several trails can be accessed from the campground. The remote and private camping area includes 14 sites for tents and recreational vehicles (up to 16 feet long) with picnic tables, bath houses with showers, and flush toilets.

SIGHTSEEING

Enjoy a spectacular 360-degree view encompassing FIVE states (Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina) at an elevation of 4,223 feet from the newly constructed observation tower.

Flag Rock Area Trails

Biking

This sprawling mountain bike system currently has eight miles of track installed, with more miles planned. The system is also open to hikers, trail runners, and other "people-powered" activities. Trails loop through lush hardwood forests and past towering sandstone cliffs on the lower slopes of High Knob. There are trails for every experience level, from novice to expert.

Take in a grand view of the American flag overlooking the city and the Wise plateau. This area is also home to the Woodbooger statue and over two miles of scenic trails.

Spearhead Trails (Mountain View Trail)

ATV Riding

Travel 15 minutes out of Norton to ride your ATV on Virginia's most exciting ATV trail destination. Over 100 miles of trail begins in St. Paul.
